can anyone guide me to any downloadable live stuff from them? If they don't allow those shows to be posted does anyone have knowledge or recomendations on official live recordings? I have "Alive in America" but would love to get some other stuff.

Thanks

Lots of Steely Dan available on the torrent site The Traders Den, many still with seeders.

Your post got me thinking and I checked SugarMegs.

They had a couple of selections.

I listened to one form Upper Darby, PA in 07', very nice.

http://tela.sugarmegs.org/ go to S's and check them out.

interesting method of theirs - just link you to the download of the information of where the actual music files are downloadable. they do no direct linking to the music at all. seems smart to me (though i admittedly know very little) - very little legal liability.

man, talk about some great and interesting music there :)

I've been steadily collecting everything I can get my hands on from Becker and Fagan for years. Though I have a lot, and particularly like the guys at TUBE, I've been on the hunt for more from this '09 tour. They play Chicago soon, for a four night run, and though I cannot get to these shows, I really do want copies.

If you haven't heard Fagan's "Morph the Cat" release, seek it out, and love it...

I second the traders Den recommendation. I scored a killer 74 and have been meaning to go back for more.

Glad to see a fellow Stelly Dan fan, I love that group. Do you have the box set of all their original albums to Gaucho? One of THE best deals out there.

here's the deal with them. I liked them but never loved them mainly because radio staions mostly played do it again all the time. Once they got back together I really noticed how jazzy and crative they were. As I was looking for the Red sox score on NESN the other night I passed the Yes network out on NY. For some reason they were playing a 30 min documentary about the current tour and advertising for the Beacon Theatre. What I saw was really good. Of course I looked up tour dates for LA and they just finished.

That's interesting because I'm probably the opposite. Everything they've done from Gaucho, Fagens solo stuff and now the reformed stuff has been the same lite Jazz thing they started with Aja and dead ended imo with gaucho. Don't get me wrong, they're impeccible musicians, always have been , but to me they lost most of their edge. Maybe it's Michael McDonalds fault? Like a curse.

My favorites are Pretzel Logic, Katy Lied, and Royal Scam but I like stuff from all of their albums. I just really like the edge they had on those ones.

I don't own all three of those '74 shows, but from the info I can find there is no indication that Grace Jones participates in any of the three.

I have had my eyes open for steely dan for the past couple of years and haven't downloaded a show...

occasionally I see shows on torrent sites but they seem to be pulled as soon as they are uploaded.

I would love to find a show from the tour when Bodhisattva was recorded.

please let me know if you find anything...I would even take some of the gigs in the 90's and 00's.

so thinking about it, I might have a fagen show or two archived and I will check on that...

During most of their recording career in the 70's and early 80's. Steely Dan were a purely studio act and did no live shows. After their first couple of albums they stopped performing live. It was only in the mid 90's that they resumed touring.

the show I have with grace is a live at record plant type deal - live in a small studio format with very small crowd.
